Telemedicine appointments only

Telemedicine visits with Optimal Psychiatry are conducted through a secure, encrypted platform designed to protect your privacy and keep your information confidential. You’ll meet with Dr. Crooks from a private location of your choosing, with the same standards of discretion and professionalism as an in-office visit.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Starting psychiatric care can feel intimidating, especially if you’re not sure what will happen. Your first visit at Optimal Psychiatry is designed to be calm, structured, and collaborative—so you feel supported from the start.

During your initial evaluation (about 60 minutes), we will:

  • Clarify your goals for treatment and what you’d like to feel differently.
  • Review your symptoms and timeline (when things started, what makes them better/worse, and how they affect your life).
  • Discuss relevant history including medical issues, prior treatments, medications, therapy, and (when relevant) substance use.
  • Talk through sleep, energy, focus, mood, and anxiety patterns in a practical, non-judgmental way.
  • Develop a working diagnosis (often a short list at first), and explain the “why” behind it.
  • Create a treatment plan that may include medication options, targeted psychotherapy strategies, lifestyle levers, and coordination with your other providers (if you want that).

If medication is appropriate, you can expect:

  • A discussion of options, benefits, potential side effects, and alternatives
  • A plan that matches your preferences (for example: “start low and go slow” when appropriate)
  • Clear guidance on what to monitor, what to do if concerns arise, and how follow-up works

Telemedicine experience (simple and private):

  • You’ll meet with Dr. Crooks via secure video on your desktop, laptop or mobile phone from the comfort of your home.
  • Most patients find telemedicine less stressful than an in-person visit—no commuting, no waiting room, and you can speak from a familiar environment.

How to prepare (optional, but helpful):

  • Jot down your top 3 concerns and what you hope will change.
  • List current medications/supplements and any past psychiatric meds you’ve tried.
  • If you have prior relevant records (therapy notes, labs, prior diagnoses), you can share them if you’d like.
